In the event of a separation, the welfare of your children should be the primary concern of all parties. Many separations become too focused on the distribution of assets in lieu of the welfare of the children. If custody disputes cannot be resolved by out of court mediation between the two parties, the matter will be dealt with through the court system. This can be a time consuming and costly exercise. A resultant parenting order will be issued determining parental responsibility and decision making, with whom the child will live, and the amount of time the child can spend with each parent.
